CNTN1

Q12860

Probable calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteinthat may play a role in calcium-mediated intracellular processes.{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q99829}. Contactins mediate cell surface interactions duringnervous system development. Involved in the formation of paranodalaxo-glial junctions in myelinated peripheral nerves and in thesignaling between axons and myelinating glial cells via itsassociation with CNTNAP1. Participates in oligodendrocytesgeneration by acting as a ligand of NOTCH1. Its association withNOTCH1 promotes NOTCH1 activation through the released notchintracellular domain (NICD) and subsequent translocation to thenucleus. Interaction with TNR induces a repulsion of neurons andan inhibition of neurite outgrowth (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
