Has 3'-5' poly(A) exoribonuclease activity for syntheticpoly(A) RNA substrate. Its function seems to be partiallyredundant with that of CNOT7. Catalytic component of the CCR4-NOTcomplex which is linked to various cellular processes includingbulk mRNA degradation, miRNA-mediated repression, translationalrepression during translational initiation and generaltranscription regulation. During miRNA-mediated repression thecomplex seems also to act as translational repressor duringtranslational initiation. Additional complex functions may be aconsequence of its influence on mRNA expression. Associates withmembers of the BTG family such as TOB1 and BTG2 and is requiredfor their anti-proliferative activity.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:12771185, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19605561,ECO:0000269|PubMed:20065043, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23236473}. Lectin that binds to various sugars: galactose > mannose= fucose > N-acetylglucosamine > N-acetylgalactosamine(PubMed:10224141). Acts as a chemoattractant, probably involved inthe regulation of cell migration (PubMed:28301481).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10224141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28301481}.
