Transcription regulator that plays a central role inheart morphogenesis and development of coronary vessels fromepicardium, by regulating genes that are essential duringcardiogenesis. Essential cofactor that acts via the formation of aheterodimer with transcription factors of the GATA family GATA4,GATA5 and GATA6. Such heterodimer can both activate or represstranscriptional activity, depending on the cell and promotercontext. Also required in gonadal differentiation, possibly beregulating expression of SRY. Probably acts a corepressor of NR2F2(By similarity). {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:10438528}. Acyl-CoA synthetase probably involved in bile acidmetabolism. Proposed to activate C27 precursors of bile acids totheir CoA thioesters derivatives before side chain cleavage viaperoxisomal beta-oxidation occurs. In vitro, activates 3-alpha,7-alpha,12-alpha-trihydroxy-5-beta-cholestanate (THCA), the C27precursor of cholic acid deriving from the de novo synthesis fromcholesterol. Does not utilize C24 bile acids as substrates. Invitro, also activates long- and branched-chain fatty acids and mayhave additional roles in fatty acid metabolism. May be involved intranslocation of long-chain fatty acids (LFCA) across membranes(By similarity). {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11980911}.
