Histone deubiquitinating component of the transcriptionregulatory histone acetylation (HAT) complex SAGA. Catalyzes thedeubiquitination of both histones H2A and H2B, thereby acting as acoactivator. Recruited to specific gene promoters by activatorssuch as MYC, where it is required for transcription. Required fornuclear receptor-mediated transactivation and cell cycleprogression. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18206972,ECO:0000269|PubMed:18206973, ECO:0000269|PubMed:18469533}. Component of the MMS22L-TONSL complex, a complex thatstimulates the recombination-dependent repair of stalled orcollapsed replication forks. The MMS22L-TONSL complex is requiredto maintain genome integrity during DNA replication by promotinghomologous recombination-mediated repair of replication fork-associated double-strand breaks. It may act by mediating theassembly of RAD51 filaments on ssDNA.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:21055983, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21055984,ECO:0000269|PubMed:21055985}.
