This is a component of the ubiquinol-cytochrome creductase complex (complex III or cytochrome b-c1 complex), whichis part of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. This protein may be closely linked to the iron-sulfurprotein in the complex and function as an iron-sulfur proteinbinding factor. May be either a bona fide (dihydro)ceramide synthase ora modulator of its activity. When overexpressed in cells isinvolved in the production of sphingolipids containing differentfatty acid donors (N-linked stearoyl- (C18) or arachidoyl- (C20)ceramides) in a fumonisin B1-independent manner (By similarity).{ECO:0000250}.
