Accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes itscovalent attachment to other proteins. In vitro catalyzesmonoubiquitination and 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitination. May beinvolved in degradation of katenin. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:12037680,ECO:0000269|PubMed:20061386}. Binds to the X-box motif of MHC class II genes andrepresses their expression. May play an important role inregulating the duration of an inflammatory response by limitingthe period in which MHC class II molecules are induced byinterferon-gamma.
