Essential ion channel and serine/threonine-proteinkinase. Divalent cation channel permeable to calcium andmagnesium. Has a central role in magnesium ion homeostasis and inthe regulation of anoxic neuronal cell death. Involved in TNF-induced necroptosis downstream of MLKL by mediating calciuminflux. The kinase activity is essential for the channel function.May be involved in a fundamental process that adjusts plasmamembrane divalent cation fluxes according to the metabolic stateof the cell. Phosphorylates annexin A1 (ANXA1).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:12887921, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15485879,ECO:0000269|PubMed:24316671}. Signal-recognition-particle assembly has a crucial rolein targeting secretory proteins to the rough endoplasmic reticulummembrane. SRP9 together with SRP14 and the Alu portion of the SRPRNA, constitutes the elongation arrest domain of SRP. The complexof SRP9 and SRP14 is required for SRP RNA binding.
