TMOD1

P28289

Guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for RHOA andRAC1 GTPases (PubMed:8643598, PubMed:27418539). Involved incoordinating actin remodeling, which is necessary for cellmigration and growth (PubMed:10341202). In developing hippocampalneurons, limits dendrite formation, without affecting theestablishment of axon polarity. Once dendrites are formed, involved in the control of synaptic function by regulating theendocytosis of AMPA-selective glutamate receptors (AMPARs) at CA1excitatory synapses (By similarity). May act as a regulator ofadipogenesis (By similarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:F1M0Z1,ECO:0000269|PubMed:10341202, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27418539,ECO:0000269|PubMed:8643598}. Blocks the elongation and depolymerization of the actinfilaments at the pointed end. The Tmod/TM complex contributes tothe formation of the short actin protofilament, which in turndefines the geometry of the membrane skeleton. May play animportant role in regulating the organization of actin filamentsby preferentially binding to a specific tropomyosin isoform at itsN-terminus. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:8002995}.
