May have a regulatory role in the membrane interactionsduring trafficking of synaptic vesicles at the active zone of thesynapse. It binds acidic phospholipids with a specificity thatrequires the presence of both an acidic head group and a diacylbackbone. A Ca(2+)-dependent interaction between synaptotagmin andputative receptors for activated protein kinase C has also beenreported. It can bind to at least three additional proteins in aCa(2+)-independent manner; these are neurexins, syntaxin and AP2.Plays a role in dendrite formation by melanocytes(PubMed:23999003). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:23999003}. May have a role in bone formation and also inestablishing the ordered structure of cartilage through matrixorganization.
