Involved in the functional recruitment of the Sin3-histone deacetylase complex (HDAC) to a specific subset of N-CoRcorepressor complexes. Capable of transcription repression by N-CoR. Active in deacetylating core histone octamers (when in acomplex) but inactive in deacetylating nucleosomal histones.{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:O88574, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9651585}. Glycopeptide transferase involved in O-linkedoligosaccharide biosynthesis, which catalyzes the transfer of anN-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to an already glycosylatedpeptide. In contrast to other proteins of the family, it does notact as a peptide transferase that transfers GalNAc onto serine orthreonine residue on the protein receptor, but instead requiresthe prior addition of a GalNAc on a peptide before addingadditional GalNAc moieties. Some peptide transferase activity ishowever not excluded, considering that its appropriate peptidesubstrate may remain unidentified.
