Binds DNA on the 5'-CCAC[GA]-3'half of the ER stress responseelement (ERSE) (5'-CCAAT-N(9)-CCAC[GA]-3') and of ERSE II (5'-ATTGG-N-CCACG-3'). Binding to ERSE requires binding of NF-Y toERSE. Could also be involved in activation of transcription by theserum response factor. Plays a role in regulation ofeffector functions of natural killer (NK) cells by controllingsignal transduction through CD244/2B4 without effecting itstyrosine phosphorylation; downstream signaling involves PLCG1 andERK activation (PubMed:24687958). Activation of SLAMF7-mediated NKcell function does not effect receptor tyrosine phosphorylationbut distal signaling (By similarity). In the context of NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity does not enhance conjugate formation withtarget cells but stimulates polarization of the microtubule-organizing center and cytotoxic granules toward the NK cellsynapse (PubMed:24687958).
