Deoxycytidyl transferase involved in DNA repair.Transfers a dCMP residue from dCTP to the 3'-end of a DNA primerin a template-dependent reaction. May assist in the first step inthe bypass of abasic lesions by the insertion of a nucleotideopposite the lesion. Required for normal induction of mutations byphysical and chemical agents. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10536157,ECO:0000269|PubMed:10760286, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11278384,ECO:0000269|PubMed:11485998, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22266823}. RNA-binding protein that affects the localization andthe translation of a subset of mRNA. May play a role inadipogenesis through binding to the 3'-UTR of CEBPA mRNA andregulation of its translation. Targets ITPR1 mRNA to dendrites inPurkinje cells, and may regulate its activity-dependenttranslation. With ELAVL1, binds the 3'-UTR of p53/TP53 mRNAs tocontrol their nuclear export induced by CDKN2A. Hence, mayregulate p53/TP53 expression and mediate in part the CDKN2A anti-proliferative activity. May also bind CCNB1 mRNA. Alternatively,may also regulate p53/TP53 activity through direct protein-proteininteraction. Interacts with p53/TP53 and promotes cell-cyclearrest over apoptosis enhancing preferentially the DNA binding andtransactivation of p53/TP53 on cell-cycle arrest target genes overproapoptotic target genes. May also regulate the ubiquitinationand stability of CDKN1A promoting DNA damage-induced cell cyclearrest. Also plays a role in megakaryocytes differentiation.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:17719541}.
