Cooperates with chromatin assembly factor 1 (CAF-1)to promote replication-dependent chromatin assembly. Furthermore, it binds to theBCL11A promoter and activates expression of BCL11A, which in turnrepresses the HBG1 and HBG2 genes. This dual activity ensuresthat, in most adults, fetal hemoglobin levels are low. Able toactivate CD44 and AQP1 promoters.
