Thiol-specific peroxidase that catalyzes the reductionof hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides to water andalcohols, respectively. Plays a role in cell protection againstoxidative stress by detoxifying peroxides and as sensor ofhydrogen peroxide-mediated signaling events. Might participate inthe signaling cascades of growth factors and tumor necrosisfactor-alpha by regulating the intracellular concentrations ofH(2)O(2) (PubMed:9497357). As a component of the GATOR subcomplex GATOR2, functionswithin the amino acid-sensing branch of the TORC1 signalingpathway.
