May regulate the disassembly of focal adhesions. Maylocalize receptor-like tyrosine phosphatases type 2A at specificsites on the plasma membrane, possibly regulating theirinteraction with the extracellular environment and theirassociation with substrates. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9624153}. Essential sperm cell-surface protein required forfertilization by acting as a ligand for IZUMO1R/JUNO receptor onegg. The IZUMO1:IZUMO1R/JUNO interaction is a necessary adhesionevent between sperm and egg that is required for fertilization butis not sufficient for cell fusion. The ligand-receptor interactionprobably does not act as a membrane 'fusogen'.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:15759005}.
