Actin-bundling protein found in intestinal microvilli,hair cell stereocilia, and fibroblast filopodia. May play a rolein the regulation of bone development. Acts as a nucleotide-exchange factor (NEF) for chaperoneproteins HSPA1A and HSPA1B, promoting the release of ADP fromHSPA1A/B thereby triggering client/substrate protein release(PubMed:24318877). Prevents the aggregation of denatured proteinsin cells under severe stress, on which the ATP levels decreasemarkedly.
