RNA-binding protein involved in deadenylation-dependentdecapping of mRNAs, leading to the degradation of mRNAs. Acts as ascaffold protein that connects deadenylation and decappingmachinery. Required for cytoplasmic mRNA processing body (P-body)assembly. In case of infection, required for translation andreplication of hepatitis C virus (HCV).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:17936923, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19628699,ECO:0000269|PubMed:20543818, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20584987,ECO:0000269|PubMed:20852261}. One of the major non-collagenous components of thetectorial membrane (By similarity). The tectorial membrane is anextracellular matrix of the inner ear that covers theneuroepithelium of the cochlea and contacts the stereociliabundles of specialized sensory hair cells. Sound induces movementof these hair cells relative to the tectorial membrane, deflectsthe stereocilia and leads to fluctuations in hair-cell membranepotential, transducing sound into electrical signals.{ECO:0000250}.
