Involved in starvation-induced autophagy probably by itsassociation with PI3K complex I (PI3KC3-C1). However, effects hasbeen described variably. Involved in the induction of starvation-induced autophagy (PubMed:24785657). Stabilzes PI3KC3-C1 assemblyand enhances ATG14-linked lipid kinase activity of PIK3C3 (Bysimilarity). Proposed to negatively regulate basal and starvation-induced autophagy and to inhibit PIK3C3 activity by modulatinginteractions in PI3KC3-C1 (PubMed:25086043). May be involved inautophagosome biogenesis (PubMed:25086043). May play a role inneural progenitor cell survival during differentiation (Bysimilarity). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q8VCQ3,ECO:0000269|PubMed:24785657, ECO:0000269|PubMed:25086043}. Plays a key role in retinoic acid metabolism. Acts onretinoids, including all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) and itsstereoisomer 9-cis-RA. Capable of both 4-hydroxylation and 18-hydroxylation. Responsible for generation of several hydroxylatedforms of RA, including 4-OH-RA, 4-oxo-RA and 18-OH-RA.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:9228017, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9716180}.
