CHST9

Q7L1S5

Core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratorychain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I) that is believed to belong tothe minimal assembly required for catalysis. Complex I functionsin the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to beubiquinone (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. Catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to position 4 of non-reducing N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) residues in both N-glycansand O-glycans. Participates in biosynthesis of glycoproteinhormones lutropin and thyrotropin, by mediating sulfation of theircarbohydrate structures. Has a higher activity toward carbonicanhydrase VI than toward lutropin. Only active against terminalGalNAcbeta1,GalNAcbeta. Isoform 2, but not isoform 1, is activetoward chondroitin.
