Transcriptional repressor. Binds with MAX to form asequence-specific DNA-binding protein complex which recognizes thecore sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. Antagonizes MYC transcriptionalactivity by competing for MAX and suppresses MYC dependent celltransformation (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}.
