Transcriptional repressor. MAD binds with MAX to form asequence-specific DNA-binding protein complex which recognizes thecore sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. MAD thus antagonizes MYCtranscriptional activity by competing for MAX. Plays a role in cell attachment and migration. Interactswith extracellular matrix proteins and with the actincytoskeleton. Mediates adhesion of cells to type 1 collagen andgelatin, reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and promotescell spreading.
