Contributes to tetrahydrofolate metabolism. Helpsregulate carbon flow through the folate-dependent one-carbonmetabolic network that supplies carbon for the biosynthesis ofpurines, thymidine and amino acids. Catalyzes the irreversibleconversion of 5-formyltetrahydrofolate (5-FTHF) to yield 5,10-methenyltetrahydrofolate. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:8522195}. Isoform 2 is required for efficient Cap- and IRES-mediated mRNA translation initiation. Isoform 2 is not involved inthe ribosome biogenesis. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19570978}.
