Probably involved in connections of major cytoskeletalstructures to the plasma membrane. May inhibit herpes simplexvirus 1 infection at an early stage. Plays a role in regulatingthe proliferation, migration, and adhesion of human lymphoid cellsand participates in immunologic synapse formation(PubMed:27405666). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21549406,ECO:0000269|PubMed:27405666}. This is one of the several different receptors for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functionsas a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor isa ligand-gated ion channel, which when activated causes fast,depolarizing responses. It is a cation-specific, but otherwiserelatively nonselective, ion channel.
