May play a role as endocytotic lectin receptordisplaying calcium-dependent lectin activity. Internalizesglycosylated ligands from the extracellular space for release inan endosomal compartment via clathrin-mediated endocytosis. May beinvolved in plasminogen activation system controlling theextracellular level of PLAUR/PLAU, and thus may regulate proteaseactivity at the cell surface. May contribute to cellular uptake, remodeling and degradation of extracellular collagen matrices. Mayplay a role during cancer progression as well as in other chronictissue destructive diseases acting on collagen turnover. Mayparticipate in remodeling of extracellular matrix cooperating withthe matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10683150, ECO:0000269|PubMed:12972549}. Binds to the SECIS element in the 3'-UTR of some mRNAsencoding selenoproteins. Binding is stimulated by SELB.
