HgeneTgene
MPO

P05164

ACSL1

P33121

Part of the host defense system of polymorphonuclearleukocytes. It is responsible for microbicidal activity against awide range of organisms. In the stimulated PMN, MPO catalyzes theproduction of hypohalous acids, primarily hypochlorous acid inphysiologic situations, and other toxic intermediates that greatlyenhance PMN microbicidal activity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:9922160}. Activation of long-chain fatty acids for both synthesisof cellular lipids, and degradation via beta-oxidation.Preferentially uses palmitoleate, oleate and linoleate.
