Q99735

PRDX6

P30041

Can catalyze the production of LTC4 from LTA4 andreduced glutathione. Can catalyze the conjugation of 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene with reduced glutathione. Thiol-specific peroxidase that catalyzes the reductionof hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides to water andalcohols, respectively. Can reduce H(2)O(2) and short chainorganic, fatty acid, and phospholipid hydroperoxides. Also hasphospholipase activity, and can therefore either reduce theoxidized sn-2 fatty acyl grup of phospholipids (peroxidaseactivity) or hydrolyze the sn-2 ester bond of phospholipids(phospholipase activity). These activities are dependent onbinding to phospholipids at acidic pH and to oxidized phospholipdsat cytosolic pH. Plays a role in cell protection against oxidativestress by detoxifying peroxides and in phospholipid homeostasis.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10893423, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9497358}.
