Functions as a dual-specificity transcription factor,regulating the expression of both MAX-network and T-box familytarget genes. Functions as a repressor or an activator. Binds to5'-AATTTCACACCTAGGTGTGAAATT-3' core sequence and seems to regulateMYC-MAX target genes. Suppresses transcriptional activation by MYCand inhibits MYC-dependent cell transformation. Function activatedby heterodimerization with MAX. This heterodimerization serves thedual function of both generating an E-box-binding heterodimer andsimultaneously blocking interaction of a corepressor (Bysimilarity). {ECO:0000250}. | Component of the PAF1 complex (PAF1C) which has multiplefunctions during transcription by RNA polymerase II and isimplicated in regulation of development and maintenance ofembryonic stem cell pluripotency.
