As a component of the LINC (LInker of Nucleoskeleton andCytoskeleton) complex, involved in the connection between thenuclear lamina and the cytoskeleton. The nucleocytoplasmicinteractions established by the LINC complex play an importantrole in the transmission of mechanical forces across the nuclearenvelope and in nuclear movement and positioning. Required fortelomere attachment to nuclear envelope in the prophase of meiosisand for rapid telomere prophase movements implicating aSUN1/2:KASH5 LINC complex in which SUN1 and SUN2 seem to act atleast partial redundantly. Required for homologue pairing duringmeiotic prophase in spermatocytes and probably oocytes. Essentialfor male and female gametogenesis. Recruits cytoplasmic dynein totelomere attachment sites at the nuclear envelope inspermatocytes. In oocytes is involved in meiotic resumption andspindle formation. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q80VJ8}.
