Catalyzes the formation of S-adenosylmethionine frommethionine and ATP. The reaction comprises two steps that are bothcatalyzed by the same enzyme: formation of S-adenosylmethionine(AdoMet) and triphosphate, and subsequent hydrolysis of thetriphosphate. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:10644686,ECO:0000269|PubMed:23189196, ECO:0000269|PubMed:25075345}. Has 3'-5' poly(A) exoribonuclease activity for syntheticpoly(A) RNA substrate. Its function seems to be partiallyredundant with that of CNOT8. Catalytic component of the CCR4-NOTcomplex which is one of the major cellular mRNA deadenylases andis linked to various cellular processes including bulk mRNAdegradation, miRNA-mediated repression, translational repressionduring translational initiation and general transcriptionregulation. During miRNA-mediated repression the complex seemsalso to act as translational repressor during translationalinitiation. Additional complex functions may be a consequence ofits influence on mRNA expression.
