Facilitates tyrosination of alpha-tubulin in neuronalmicrotubules (By similarity). Phosphorylated MAP1B may play a rolein the cytoskeletal changes that accompany neurite extension.Possibly MAP1B binds to at least two tubulin subunits in thepolymer, and this bridging of subunits might be involved innucleating microtubule polymerization and in stabilizingmicrotubules. Acts as a positive cofactor in DAPK1-mediatedautophagic vesicle formation and membrane blebbing. {ECO:0000250,ECO:0000269|PubMed:18195017}. Acyl-CoA synthetase probably involved in bile acidmetabolism. Proposed to activate C27 precursors of bile acids totheir CoA thioesters derivatives before side chain cleavage viaperoxisomal beta-oxidation occurs. In vitro, activates 3-alpha,7-alpha,12-alpha-trihydroxy-5-beta-cholestanate (THCA), the C27precursor of cholic acid deriving from the de novo synthesis fromcholesterol. Does not utilize C24 bile acids as substrates. Invitro, also activates long- and branched-chain fatty acids and mayhave additional roles in fatty acid metabolism. May be involved intranslocation of long-chain fatty acids (LFCA) across membranes(By similarity). {ECO:0000250, ECO:0000269|PubMed:11980911}.
