Receptor for glutamate. L-glutamate acts as anexcitatory neurotransmitter at many synapses in the centralnervous system. The postsynaptic actions of Glu are mediated by avariety of receptors that are named according to their selectiveagonists. Promotes synaptogenesis and mediates the D-Serine-dependent long term depression signals and AMPA receptorendocytosis of cerebellar parallel fiber-Purkinje cell (PF-PC)synapses through the beta-NRX1-CBLN1-GRID2 triad complex(PubMed:27418511). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:27418511}. Thiol-specific peroxidase that catalyzes the reductionof hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides to water andalcohols, respectively. Can reduce H(2)O(2) and short chainorganic, fatty acid, and phospholipid hydroperoxides. Also hasphospholipase activity, and can therefore either reduce theoxidized sn-2 fatty acyl grup of phospholipids (peroxidaseactivity) or hydrolyze the sn-2 ester bond of phospholipids(phospholipase activity). These activities are dependent onbinding to phospholipids at acidic pH and to oxidized phospholipdsat cytosolic pH. Plays a role in cell protection against oxidativestress by detoxifying peroxides and in phospholipid homeostasis.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10893423, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9497358}.
