NAD-dependent aldehyde dehydrogenase that catalyzes theformation of retinoic acid (PubMed:27759097). Has high activitywith all-trans retinal, and has much lower in vitro activity withacetaldehyde (PubMed:27759097). Required for the biosynthesis ofnormal levels of retinoic acid in the embryonic ocular and nasalregions; retinoic acid is required for normal embryonicdevelopment of the eye and the nasal region (By similarity).{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q9JHW9, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27759097}. Deubiquitinating enzyme that hydrolyzes ubiquitinmoieties conjugated to substrates and thus, functions to processnewly synthesized Ubiquitin, to recycle ubiquitin molecules or toedit polyubiquitin chains and prevents proteasomal degradation ofsubstrates. Hydrolyzes both 'Lys-48'- and 'Lys-63'-linkedtetraubiquitin chains. The muscle-specific isoform (USP25m) may have a role inthe regulation of muscular differentiation and function.
