ATP6V1C1

P21283

Non-lysosomal glucosylceramidase that catalyzes theconversion of glucosylceramide (GlcCer) to free glucose andceramide. Involved in sphingomyelin generation and prevention ofglycolipid accumulation. May also catalyze the hydrolysis of bileacid 3-O-glucosides, however, the relevance of such activity isunclear in vivo. Plays a role in central nevous systemdevelopment. Required for proper formation of motor neuron axons.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:17105727, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23332916}. Subunit of the peripheral V1 complex of vacuolar ATPase.Subunit C is necessary for the assembly of the catalytic sector ofthe enzyme and is likely to have a specific function in itscatalytic activity. V-ATPase is responsible for acidifying avariety of intracellular compartments in eukaryotic cells.
