Co-chaperone required during spermatogenesis to represstransposable elements and prevent their mobilization, which isessential for the germline integrity. Acts via the piRNA metabolicprocess, which mediates the repression of transposable elementsduring meiosis by forming complexes composed of piRNAs and Piwiproteins and govern the methylation and subsequent repression oftransposons. Acts as a co-chaperone via its interaction with HSP90and is required for the piRNA amplification process, the secondarypiRNA biogenesis. May be required together with HSP90 in removalof 16 nucleotide ping-pong by-products from Piwi complexes,possibly facilitating turnover of Piwi complexes (By similarity).{ECO:0000250}. May act as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase, or as part ofthe E3 complex, which accepts ubiquitin from specific E2ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, such as UBE2E1, and then transfersit to substrates, such as SLC22A18.
