PSMB8

P28062

Lectin that binds to various sugars: galactose > mannose= fucose > N-acetylglucosamine > N-acetylgalactosamine(PubMed:10224141). Acts as a chemoattractant, probably involved inthe regulation of cell migration (PubMed:28301481).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10224141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28301481}. The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complexwhich is characterized by its ability to cleave peptides with Arg,Phe, Tyr, Leu, and Glu adjacent to the leaving group at neutral orslightly basic pH. The proteasome has an ATP-dependent proteolyticactivity. This subunit is involved in antigen processing togenerate class I binding peptides. Replacement of PSMB5 by PSMB8increases the capacity of the immunoproteasome to cleave modelpeptides after hydrophobic and basic residues. Acts as a majorcomponent of interferon gamma-induced sensitivity. Plays a keyrole in apoptosis via the degradation of the apoptotic inhibitorMCL1. May be involved in the inflammatory response pathway. Incancer cells, substitution of isoform 1 (E2) by isoform 2 (E1)results in immunoproteasome deficiency. Required for thedifferentiation of preadipocytes into adipocytes.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:16423992, ECO:0000269|PubMed:19443843,ECO:0000269|PubMed:21881205, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8163024}.
