FABP are thought to play a role in the intracellulartransport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters.FABP2 is probably involved in triglyceride-rich lipoproteinsynthesis. Binds saturated long-chain fatty acids with a highaffinity, but binds with a lower affinity to unsaturated long-chain fatty acids. FABP2 may also help maintain energy homeostasisby functioning as a lipid sensor. Acyltransferase which mediates the conversion oflysophosphatidylethanolamine (1-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine or LPE) into phosphatidylethanolamine (1,2-diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine or PE) (LPEAT activity).Catalyzes also the acylation of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) intophosphatidic acid (PA) (LPAAT activity). Has also a very weaklysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase (LPCAT activity). Prefersoleoyl-CoA as the acyl donor. Lysophospholipid acyltransferases(LPLATs) catalyze the reacylation step of the phospholipidremodeling pathway also known as the Lands cycle.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:18772128}.
