MALAT1

Receptor tyrosine kinase which binds promiscuously GPI-anchored ephrin-A family ligands residing on adjacent cells, leading to contact-dependent bidirectional signaling intoneighboring cells. The signaling pathway downstream of thereceptor is referred to as forward signaling while the signalingpathway downstream of the ephrin ligand is referred to as reversesignaling. Among GPI-anchored ephrin-A ligands, EFNA5 mostprobably constitutes the cognate/functional ligand for EPHA5.Functions as an axon guidance molecule during development and maybe involved in the development of the retinotectal, entorhino-hippocampal and hippocamposeptal pathways. Together with EFNA5plays also a role in synaptic plasticity in adult brain throughregulation of synaptogenesis. In addition to its function in thenervous system, the interaction of EPHA5 with EFNA5 mediatescommunication between pancreatic islet cells to regulate glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. Lectin that binds to various sugars: galactose > mannose= fucose > N-acetylglucosamine > N-acetylgalactosamine(PubMed:10224141). Acts as a chemoattractant, probably involved inthe regulation of cell migration (PubMed:28301481).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10224141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28301481}.
