Associates with DNA replication sites in Sphase maintaining the methylation pattern in the newly synthesizedstrand, that is essential for epigenetic inheritance. SMC phenotypic switching is the processthrough which vascular SMCs undergo transition between a quiescentcontractile phenotype and a proliferative synthetic phenotype inresponse to pathological stimuli.
