F-actin cross-linking protein which is thought to anchoractin to a variety of intracellular structures. This is a bundlingprotein (Probable). Probably involved in vesicular trafficking viaits association with the CART complex. The CART complex isnecessary for efficient transferrin receptor recycling but not forEGFR degradation (PubMed:15772161). Involved in tight junctionassembly in epithelial cells probably through interaction withMICALL2. Links MICALL2 to the actin cytoskeleton and recruits itto the tight junctions (By similarity). May also function as atranscriptional coactivator, stimulating transcription mediated bythe nuclear hormone receptors PPARG and RARA (PubMed:22351778).{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P57780, ECO:0000269|PubMed:15772161,ECO:0000269|PubMed:22351778, ECO:0000305|PubMed:9508771}. Acts as a sulfur carrier required for 2-thiolation ofmcm(5)S(2)U at tRNA wobble positions of cytosolic tRNA(Lys),tRNA(Glu) and tRNA(Gln). Serves as sulfur donor in tRNA 2-thiolation reaction by being thiocarboxylated (-COSH) at its C-terminus by MOCS3. The sulfur is then transferred to tRNA to form2-thiolation of mcm(5)S(2)U. Also acts as a ubiquitin-like protein(UBL) that is covalently conjugated via an isopeptide bond tolysine residues of target proteins such as MOCS3, ATPBD3, CTU2,USP15 and CAS.
