Component of heterochromatin. Recognizes and bindshistone H3 tails methylated at 'Lys-9', leading to epigeneticrepression. Interaction with lamin B receptor (LBR) can contributeto the association of the heterochromatin with the inner nuclearmembrane. Protein phosphatase which regulates actin filamentdynamics. Dephosphorylates and activates the actinbinding/depolymerizing factor cofilin, which subsequently binds toactin filaments and stimulates their disassembly. Inhibitoryphosphorylation of cofilin is mediated by LIMK1, which may also bedephosphorylated and inactivated by this protein.{ECO:0000269|PubMed:11832213}.
