Regulatory subunit of the calcium-regulated non-lysosomal thiol-protease which catalyzes limited proteolysis ofsubstrates involved in cytoskeletal remodeling and signaltransduction. This enzyme has 2 functions: it catalyzes the productionof glutamine and 4-aminobutanoate (gamma-aminobutyric acid, GABA),the latter in a pyridoxal phosphate-independent manner (Bysimilarity).
