Transcription factor that binds the consensus DNAsequence [GC]AAAAA. Seems to bind and regulate the promoters ofMMP1, MMP3, MMP7 and COL1A1 (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. Oxidoreductase with strong preference for NAD. Active inboth the oxidative and reductive directions. Oxidizes all-trans-retinol in all-trans-retinaldehyde. No activity was detected with11-cis-retinol or 11-cis-retinaldehyde as substrates with eitherNAD(+)/NADH or NADP(+)/NADPH. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:18926804}.
