BPGM

P07738

AKR1B15

C9JRZ8

Plays a major role in regulating hemoglobin oxygenaffinity by controlling the levels of its allosteric effector 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate (2,3-BPG). Also exhibits mutase (EC 5.4.2.11)activity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21045285}. Isoform 1: Mainly acts as a reductive enzyme thatcatalyzes the reduction of androgens and estrogens with highpositional selectivity (shows 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenaseactivity) as well as 3-keto-acyl-CoAs. Has a strong selectivitytowards NADP(H) (PubMed:25577493). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:21276782,ECO:0000269|PubMed:25577493}. Isoform 2: No oxidoreductase activity observed with thetested substrates. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:25577493}.
