Component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase (HAT)complex which is involved in transcriptional activation of selectgenes principally by acetylation of nucleosomal histones H4 andH2A. This modification may both alter nucleosome - DNAinteractions and promote interaction of the modified histones withother proteins which positively regulate transcription. Thiscomplex may be required for the activation of transcriptionalprograms associated with oncogene and proto-oncogene mediatedgrowth induction, tumor suppressor mediated growth arrest andreplicative senescence, apoptosis, and DNA repair. NuA4 may alsoplay a direct role in DNA repair when recruited to sites of DNAdamage. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:14966270}.
