Alpha-1,3-xylosyltransferase, which elongates the O-linked xylose-glucose disaccharide attached to EGF-like repeats inthe extracellular domain of target proteins by catalyzing theaddition of the second xylose (PubMed:22117070, PubMed:8982869).Known targets include Notch proteins and coagulation factors, suchas F9 (PubMed:22117070, PubMed:8982869).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:22117070, ECO:0000269|PubMed:8982869}. Hydrolyzes the phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate(PIP2) to generate 2 second messenger molecules diacylglycerol(DAG) and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3). DAG mediates theactivation of protein kinase C (PKC), while IP3 releases Ca(2+)from intracellular stores. Required for acrosome reaction in spermduring fertilization, probably by acting as an important enzymefor intracellular Ca(2+) mobilization in the zona pellucida-induced acrosome reaction. May play a role in cell growth.Modulates the liver regeneration in cooperation with nuclear PKC.Overexpression up-regulates the Erk signaling pathway andproliferation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15140260}.
