Mediates the side-chain deamidation of N-terminalglutamine residues to glutamate, an important step in N-end rulepathway of protein degradation. Conversion of the resulting N-terminal glutamine to glutamate renders the protein susceptible toarginylation, polyubiquitination and degradation as specified bythe N-end rule. Does not act on substrates with internal or C-terminal glutamine and does not act on non-glutamine residues inany position. Does not deaminate acetylated N-terminal glutamine.With the exception of proline, all tested second-position residueson substrate peptides do not greatly influence the activity. Incontrast, a proline at position 2, virtually abolishes deamidationof N-terminal glutamine. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q80WB5}. May play an important role in modulating bone turnover.Promotes the adhesion of osteoblast cells and inhibits the bindingof fibrinogen to integrin receptors.
