Non-catalytic component of the methylosome complex,composed of PRMT5, WDR77 and CLNS1A, which modifies specificarginines to dimethylarginines in several spliceosomal Sm proteinsand histones (PubMed:11756452). This modification targets Smproteins to the survival of motor neurons (SMN) complex forassembly into small nuclear ribonucleoprotein core particles.Might play a role in transcription regulation. The methylosomecomplex also methylates the Piwi proteins (PIWIL1, PIWIL2 andPIWIL4), methylation of Piwi proteins being required for theinteraction with Tudor domain-containing proteins and subsequentlocalization to the meiotic nuage (PubMed:23071334).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:11756452, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23071334}. Component of the endoplasmic reticulum quality control(ERQC) system also called ER-associated degradation (ERAD)involved in ubiquitin-dependent degradation of misfoldedendoplasmic reticulum proteins. Could enhance presenilin-mediatedamyloid-beta protein 40 generation. Binds to ubiquilins and thisinteraction is required for efficient degradation of CD3D via theERAD pathway (PubMed:18307982). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16289116,ECO:0000269|PubMed:18307982}.
