Acyl-CoA thioesterases are a group of enzymes thatcatalyze the hydrolysis of acyl-CoAs to the free fatty acid andcoenzyme A (CoASH), providing the potential to regulateintracellular levels of acyl-CoAs, free fatty acids and CoASH.Active towards fatty acyl-CoA with chain-lengths of C12-C16 (Bysimilarity). {ECO:0000250}. Interferon-induced, dsRNA-activated antiviral enzymewhich plays a critical role in cellular innate antiviral response. In addition, it may also play a role in other cellular processessuch as apoptosis, cell growth, differentiation and generegulation. Synthesizes preferentially dimers of 2'-5'-oligoadenylates (2-5A) from ATP which then bind to the inactivemonomeric form of ribonuclease L (RNase L) leading to itsdimerization and subsequent activation. Activation of RNase Lleads to degradation of cellular as well as viral RNA, resultingin the inhibition of protein synthesis, thus terminating viralreplication. Can mediate the antiviral effect via the classicalRNase L-dependent pathway or an alternative antiviral pathwayindependent of RNase L. Displays antiviral activity againstChikungunya virus (CHIKV), Dengue virus, Sindbis virus (SINV) andSemliki forest virus (SFV). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:19056102,ECO:0000269|PubMed:19923450, ECO:0000269|PubMed:9880533}.
