Forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membranethat allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules. The channeladopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential anda closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV. The open statehas a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation-selective. Lectin that binds to various sugars: galactose > mannose= fucose > N-acetylglucosamine > N-acetylgalactosamine(PubMed:10224141). Acts as a chemoattractant, probably involved inthe regulation of cell migration (PubMed:28301481).{ECO:0000269|PubMed:10224141, ECO:0000269|PubMed:28301481}.
