As a major component of focal adhesion plaques thatlinks integrin to the actin cytoskeleton, may play an importantrole in cell adhesion. Recruits PIP5K1C to focal adhesion plaquesand strongly activates its kinase activity (By similarity).{ECO:0000250}. Mitochondrial serine protease that acts as a regulatorof mitochondrial lipid metabolism (PubMed:28329758). Acts bydecreasing protein levels of PISD, a mitochondrial enzyme thatconverts phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) to phosphatidylethanolamine(PtdEtn), thereby affecting mitochondrial lipid metabolism(PubMed:28329758). It is unclear whether it acts directly bymediating proteolysis of PISD or by mediating proteolysis ofanother lipid metabolism protein (PubMed:28329758). Acts as atumor suppressor that has the ability to inhibit proliferation ofmultiple types of breast cancer cells: probably by promotingdecreased levels of PISD, thereby affecting mitochondrial lipidmetabolism (PubMed:28329758). {ECO:0000269|PubMed:28329758}.
